Welcome to the Legend of Langkawi Island.Langkawi is a fully developed bustling all - in - one tourist destination of international repute .There are now about 80 hotel,with some 7000 room ,including the biggest name in the business.Besides lazing around on the beach ,there are many 'once-in-a-lifetime' things to do and see for the whole family .As a matter of fact ,Langkawi is very much a place where you can bring the kid ,and grandma and granddad for that matter ,for a good affordable sleaze-free tropical vacation .



Langkawi ,derives its name from the words ‘helang’ ,which means eagle and ‘kawi’which is an ancient Malay word for ‘strong’.
It comprises of a cluster of emerald island that stand out from the edge of the Indian Ocean ,the Andaman Sea and the straits of Malacca .It is in fact an archipelago of about 99 islands . At low tide (or more so ,depending on how much duty free whisky you have been guzzling ),some say that the actual count stands at 102 – 108 islands .The main inhabited islands are Langkawi itself and Tuba Island .

    1.By Road ;

  • Visitor traveling by road have to drive to Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis ,the main take-of points by ferry to Langkawi . The journey from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Kedah take about 6 hours while Kuala Perlis is another hour away .

  • Malaysia Airlines and budget carrier AirAsia ( http://www.airasia.com/ ) provide direct air services from the Kuala Lumpur international Airport (KLIA) to Langkawi .

  • Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTMB) or Malayan Railway provides economical and confortable rail services from Kuala Lumpur to Alor Setar in Kedah and Arau in Perlis (north of Kedah) .From the point ,take a taxi or bus to Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis .

  • 4.By Sea ;

  • Express ferries provide regular daily service to Langkawi from both Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis .The journey take about 1 hour 15 minutes and 45 minutes respectively .From Penang to Langkawi the Ferry takes 2 hours 30 minutes .The island is also a stopover for Star Cruise,one of the largest luxury cruise lines in the world . One more … From Saturn (southern of Thailand) to Langkawi island takes about 1 hour 30 minutes .

  • Cenang Beach >- The most popular beach on the island with various types of places to stay and eat – busiest beach .It has many budget motels and elegant restaurants .It is about 19KM from Kuah .This beach offers lots of water sports.




  • Kok BeachA beautiful sweeping bay,ideal for swimmimg of picnic .This beach boasts of white and swaying palms .Its face the Andaman Sea . This was the location of the shooting of Hollywood’s ‘Anna And The King’

  • Tanjung Rhu
    Interesting scenic area with limestone outcrops ,a tidal river ,swirling currents and historical caves.This beach you must not miss in Langkawi .

  • Pasir Tengkorak Beach
    Lovely ,secluded little beach which a very saf for swimming .On the shores of the Pasir Tengkorak Tropical Rainforest Reserve,is this once a upon a time infamous beach used by pirates .Strategically, this beach does make an ideal pirates cove .Literally translated,it means ‘Beach of Sandy Skulls’. The water here are clear and its really scenic.

  • Dayang Bunting Lake
    Langkawi’s famous lake of the Pregnant Maiden .Enjoy water sport on the lake and swimming in its cool clean waters.Location on Dayang Bunting Island.

  • Gua Kelawar - ‘Cave Of Bats’
    the local dwelling place of the Malaysian fruit bat,all harmless ,as they all feed and fruits and insect.None of them ,are of the vampire type!Located along the Kilim River,and accessible only by boat through a mangrove swamp .

  • The Underwater World
    – Featuring one of the largest oceanariums in Asia .On the display are over 5000 marine and freshwater fish and others aquatic life .Of particular interestis the walk through tunnel which houses sharks!(New attraction – African penguin/Rockhopper penguin/3D theatre/fascinating rainforest )

  • Payar Marine Park
    – The Payar Marine Park situated on a Reef Platform ,off the island of Payar ,is reputed to be the best marine park in Malaysia .

  • Galeria Perdana
    – This magnificent gallery showcases all the memorabilia received by the Ex – Prime Minister Malaysia ,Tun Dr.Mahathir Mohamad from around the world ,from handmade craft ,Islamic art ,gold and silverware and even car .

  • Makam Mahsuri ( Mahsuri’s Mausoleum )
    – Located 12km north –west of Kuah,it marks the sport where Mahsuri ,a tragic legendary heroine ,is buried . In the vicinity are souvenir shops and a kampong house displaying ancient artifact .

  • Langkawi Cable Car
    – Langkawi’s newest attraction .Ride to the top of Mount Mat Cincang for spectacular views over islands and beaches .On clear days ,visitors can also see parts of Thailand towards the north and Indonesia towards the south-west . The cable car ride up the hill take about 20 minutes to cover some 2kms and is highly exhilarating.

    • If you fearful of heights then the cable car ride is not recommended .
    • Before you go ,it is advisable to make sure the cable car is operational, as operations may be curtailed in extreme weather.Call before you go.
    • Each gondola can take up to 6 persons.
    • Operating hours are 10:00 to 8:00 pm daily.
